After the wait to find the right donor and post transplant; there is a challenge which awaits; i.e. chances of rejection. Self discipline and self care are of utmost importance to avoid the same. This awareness video by us gives you a brief idea about what are the basic precautions one should take post organ transplant. The kidney transplanted in your body is a foreign object for you immune system and the chances of organ rejection are high. Immunosuppressants would be administered to avoid rejection. There are two types of immunosuppressants. 1. Induction drugs: Powerful drugs used during transplant.
2. Maintenance drugs: Antirejection drugs used for long term.(Tacrolimus, Cyclosporine, Mycophenolate Mofetil, Mycophenolate Sodium, Azathioprine, Sirolimus, Prednisolone)

Immunosuppressants hold back your bodies immune system, thus putting you at risk of infections.
One needs to take care of following things post kidney transplant.
Mind your medicines: Know the exact dosage and timing of medicines you have been prescribed and follow the dosage regimen. Missing out on doses may lead to rejection. Know each and every medicine you have been prescribed and follow the guidelines by doctor.
Don't skip your lab tests: Regular checking of eGFR, Serum Creatinine, blood sugar levels, etc as advised by your doctor are vital and should not be missed at any cost.
Don't skip your appointments with the doctor
Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated: It is very important to stay hydrated post transplant.
Monitor blood sugar levels: Vital to avoid infections, cardiovascular complications, organ rejections
Exercise post recovery: Low intensity workouts like cycling, walking, swimming help you stay fit,
